The 2007-2008 Plainfield Public Schools Calendar was delivered to the households of all registered Plainfield Public School students on September 5 & 6, 2007. Parents and guardians of children enrolled in the Early Childhood Program throughout Plainfield also received calendars at the seventeen Early Childhood Centers. A copy of the calendar was also provided for all district staff members.
At first glance, you will notice the 2007-2008 Calendar is extremely colorful and highlights our bright enthusiastic students and their work. Each month the calendar highlights a district-wide theme and a Character Education Pillar. For example, November 2007 is the COMPUTER TECH FAIR and our Character Education Pillar is CARING. In addition, rather than the usual box around each day, the design team chose different color circles to separate the days of the month. Each color symbolizes whether there is school, no school, a half-day, or no school but buildings are still open for staff. A legend on the first interior page explains the color system very clearly. You can open the calendar to any month and see at quick glance when school is in session.

The opening introductions from Interim Superintendent, Peter E. Carter, and Board President, Patricia I. Barksdale, were printed in English and Spanish. Contact information for all Schools, Early Childhood Centers, and the most requested departments have been provided in the introductory pages as well. The dates for Back to School Nights, Board Meetings, Special Events, the Winter and Spring Concert Dates and other monthly District–Wide Parents’ Meetings have been highlighted in the calendar to help parents plan out their month and to encourage their participation in the various programs and activities that are scheduled.
The graphic design firm, Aljira Design, assisted the Plainfield Calendar Team which was comprised of teachers and family liaisons from our schools, a community member and was headed by our Art Supervisor, Dr. Laura Fattal and the Coordinator of Community Relations, Louis Rivera.
