Boys Baskeball: Thompson, Nelson lead Plainfield to Surf 'N Slam title
SAN DIEGO -- Senior guard Jerrell Thompson scored 19 points and senior guard Anthony Nelson had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five steals Sunday to lead the Plainfield High School boys basketball team to a 78-45 victory over Salesian ( Calif.) in the championship game of the Surf 'N Slam Holiday Tournament.
Nelson, who was voted the tournament's most valuable player, was joined on the all-tournament team by Thompson, while senior guard Raafiq Carnegie was named MVP of the title game.
Sophomore guard Anthony Baskerville added five steals for Plainfield, which shot 21-of-25 from the free-throw line, missing its final two attempts.
