The NAACP ACT-SO Competition was held in Piscataway on April 21, 2007. During the competition three judges evaluated the project on a point system. Participants must earn enough points to win Gold Medal ( 1st Place), Silver Medal (2nd place), Bronze Medal (3rd place).
The awards ceremony was held in Paterson. Keron Plaza’s piece called “Piata” won the Gold Medal. It displayed two men trying to comfort a younger man/ child as he lay outstretched over the lap of one of the men as blood pools underneath his knee. Nafeesah Spann won the Silver Medal.
Keron Plaza , the Gold Medalist, will represent the Plainfield Chapter of the NAACP ACT-SO Program. The National Competition will be in Dearborn Michigan from July 5 – 8, 2007. The hotel cost will be paid by the NAACP National Chapter but airfare must be covered by the student.
