Plainfield Schools Celebrate its Children and its Future

20th Anniversary of The Month of Young Child

“It was the 20th anniversary celebration of the Month of the Young Child Parade in Plainfield, but one hundred years from now the photos of the smiles will tell the story of how Plainfield put children first in ‘Building Better Futures’. The event exemplified community collaboration and how the village will be stronger because the children are well.”

Evelyn Motley

The Plainfield Public Schools, under the leadership of the Plainfield Board of Education, and the Office of Early Childhood, with the support of P.I.E.C.E.S (Plainfield Initiative for Early Childhood Educational Services) Advisory Council, held a triumphant party to congratulate our Early Childhood Centers for another year of preparing our Three and Four Year Old Students for Kindergarten and for becoming Life Long Learners. Today’s event and activities were a reminder that anything is possible when the community comes together to educate and support our children and district programs. National Teacher Appreciation Day was also commemorated throughout the district. Evelyn Motley, Director of the Program of Early Childhood, opened the days’ events by thanking all parents and teachers for making the Plainfield Early Childhood Program the best program in the State of New Jersey. The Grand Marshalls for this year’s Parade were Plainfield Superintendent of Schools Paula E. Howard, Mayor Robinson-Briggs and Pete Jones - Chairperson of the P.I.E.C.E.S (Plainfield Initiative for Early Childhood Educational Services) Advisory Council. After a short yet exuberant march from Library Park to the Athletic Fields behind the High School, approximately 2000 children were treated to carnival rides, bouncy houses and an impromptu petting zoo. Everyone in attendance remarked on what a wonderful day it was in spirit and climate.

The Plainfield Public Schools and the Plainfield Board of Education would like to thank all of the Plainfield Police, Plainfield Fire Department, the Plainfield Rescue Squad and all other municipal employees for their assistance and support during today’s festivities.
