DEDICATION OF THE PLAINFIELD HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM AS THE AMERICO (RICO) PARENTI GYMNASIUM ON FEBRUARY 26, 2007 AT 7 PM AT HALFTIME OF THE BOYS BASKETBALL GROUP IV STATE TOURNAMENT GAME AGAINST PHILLIPSBURG.

The Plainfield Board of Education passed a resolution AT THE FEBRUARY 20, 2007 Board Meeting to re-name the Plainfield High School Gymnasium to the Americo (Rico) Parenti Gymnasium.

During the course of his tenure as Head Coach, the Plainfield High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team won two State Championships, one in 1976 and another in 1983 and two Union County Championships, during the 1974-75 season and one during the 1978-1979 season as well as five overall appearances in the Union County Championship Game during the course of his illustrious career which began in 1973 and lasted through1984 and thereafter from 1993 through 1997. During his time as Kead Coach he amassed over 280 wins. Mr. Parenti served as Assistant Coach for the 2006-2007 Basketball Team. He is a graduate of Plainfield High School and a member of the Plainfield Hall of Fame.

The Plainfield Board of Education has determined that the contributions of Americo (Rico) Parenti through his hard work, commitment and dedication to the Plainfield school district as well as the City of Plainfield are synonymous with the goals and philosophy of the Board of Education.
